FOCUS

FOCUSing on Student Need at BMCMS

During the 2015-2016 school year, we have taken steps to address student achievement at B. Michael Caudill Middle School.  We want all of our students to both perform at the proficient/distinguished level as well as show expected growth throughout the course of the school.  Our FOCUS program is one of the ways we are addressing student achievement.  Using student multiple data points to identify students’ needs, students are enrolled in a specific FOCUS class that addresses reading and math skill.  We have four intervention FOCUS classes that  blend together teacher directed instruction with computer-based instructional programs (i.e., Odyssey Math and Reading Plus) to address reading and math skills.  We also have skills-based enrichment FOCUS classes where students explore different aspects of literature-drama, journalism, economics, forensic science and engineering.  Several factors determine student scheduling/placement.  First, as noted above, using multiple data points, student placement addresses student need.  Second, we ensure that that students have access to all of our Related Arts offerings.

Winter Weather Information

It's finally winter! The cold temperatures create a good time to remind parents about a few things:
1. If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, the cancellation will be found on the district's website, social media pages, and on the local news outlets. If you see a social media friend post that school has been cancelled, please check one of the official sites to confirm. Those sites can be found by clicking these links:  Facebook or Twitter.
2. The district does use a delay system on occasion. If a delay is called and you need additional information, please click HERE.
3. This year, the district has the opportunity to use Non-Traditional Instructional Days (NTI: Madison). NTI days will be announced in the same way that cancelled or delayed days are announced. If you have not received information from your child's school, please contact them as soon as possible. Additional NTI: Madison can be found HERE.

Non Traditional Instructional Day Information

Students are coming home with information regarding Non Traditional Instructional Days (NTI).  In case of inclement weather, excessive illness or other types of emergencies, the district may choose to close school, but students will have work to do at home to make up for not actually attending school.  A copy of the handout can be accessed here.
