Two-Hour Delay due to power outage

Madison County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay today due to a power outage in Berea. There is no indication as to when the power will be back on. We encourage you to check back for any updates.

Board approves calendar for 2014-2015 end of school

The Madison County Board of Education voted to approve the final calendar for the 2014-2015 school year. The last day of school for students will be Monday, June 1, 2015. Graduation dates were also set by the Board. Madison Central High School graduates will have their ceremony on Friday, May 29. Madison Southern High School graduates will have their ceremony on Saturday, May 30. Both ceremonies will be held at Eastern Kentucky University's Alumni Coliseum. The times for those ceremonies will be announced soon.

2019 Cohort Students

8th Grade Parents:  For Class of 2019 cohort students who were invited to join the Madison County Advanced Scholars Academy click here to see the information was presented.  Please look at it if you missed the informational meeting on Tuesday, March 10th or would like to review the material we discussed. The deadline for applications has been extended to Friday, March 27th.  Complete applications can be turned into your middle school guidance counselor or into Madison Central High School with attention to Nicki Tipton.

Farristown teacher pens book, official release March 10

Congratulations to Farristown Middle School 7th grade World Civilization Teacher Daniel Bryant. Mr. Bryant has written a young adult science fiction novel titled Zan's Quest that will be released nationwide on Tuesday, March 10. This is the first in a series of books known as the Chandrian Chronicles.

Anxiety Seminar

Madison County Middle School Guidance Counselors are collaborating with Our Lady of Peace to host a workshop on Monday,

March 16, 2015: 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm at Madison County Extension Office located at 230 Duncannon Lane.

Rescheduled events

Please be sure to call ahead or contact a coach or sponsor before traveling to a scheduled event or activitiy as many were rescheduled due to the recent inclement weather.

  • The meeting for 8th grade students and parents invited to discuss the Madison County Advanced Scholars Academy at the Madison Central Auditorium tonight has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The meeting is rescheduled for Tuesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. in the Madison Central auditorium. 

  • Kit Carson Elementary's trip to COSI has been postponed. A rescheduled date in May is likely. More information to come when details are worked out.

Madison County Schools will be closed Friday, March 6.

School will be in session March 20

Madison County Schools will use the previously scheduled March 20 professional development day as a make-up day. To date, the district has cancelled school seven days for inclement weather. Pending Board approval, students last day of classes for the 2014-2015 school year will be Thursday, May 28. Memorial Day (May 25) will remain a holiday.

Public forum to discuss the district facilities plan is scheduled

On behalf of the Madison Board of Education, the Madison County Local Planning Committee will convene its 8th meeting and 3rd public forum to continue development of the District Facilities Plan. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. local time Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Glenn Marshall Elementary School Media Center. This public forum will be for the purpose of discussing items concerning the District Facilities Plan. The public forum will be followed by a meeting to consider items discussed in the forum and the review of the plan by the Kentucky Department of Education.

MCHS Scheduling

MCHS will be here on Friday, February 27th to schedule 8th graders for Freshmen year 2015.  Please make sure you bring your completed schedule card signed by parents on Friday.

Breakfast/lunch menu update

The district's cafeteria managers met this afternoon to iron out the details of the breakfast and lunch menus after this extended winter break. When school resumes, please follow LAST WEEK's breakfast and lunch menus. The food service staff will be trying to stick as closely with those planned meals as possible.

Alison Lundergun Grimes’ office informed us that one of our students, Lauryn Robinson at Clark-Moores Middle School, has had her voting slogan chosen in the top 15 of the state. The winner will be chosen by public vote. The public online voting begins today and ends on the February 20 at midnight.

LPC meeting cancelled

February Board Meeting Notes

Tony Thomas, architect with Clotfelter-Samokar Architects, presented the preliminary renderings for the renovations at Foley Middle and Silver Creek Elementary schools at Thursday’s regular Board of Education meeting. The renderings are part of the first stages for planning and development for the renovation projects that will begin at Foley and Silver Creek in the fall.

MCS hosts review of wellness report

Madison County Schools will host a time for the public to review the wellness report for the 2014-2015 school year. The review will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, January 22, at the district's central office on South Keeneland Drive. Anyone wishing to look through the district's annual wellness report and ask questions will have the opportunity to do so at that time. Food Service Director Emily Agee and School Nurse Coordinator Becky Carr will be on hand. The report will be posted on the district's website following the review.

2015-16 MCHS Freshmen Scheduling Dates

Attention Parents of Current 8th Graders:  Parents and students of the Class of 2019 are invited to an informational meeting to discuss transition and scheduling of high school courses for the 2015-16 year.  The meeting will be on Thursday, February 5th starting at 6:00 p.m. in the MCHS Auditorium.  Beginning at 5:30 representatives from various MCHS clubs and organizations will be in Health Building lobby to provide information on student involvement in school activities.  The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.  Assistant Principal, Laura Dedic and Counselor, Nicki Tipton will cover many topics from credit requirements for graduation, scheduling for freshman year, transition to high school, and connecting with MCHS.  There will be a time to ask questions as well.  We look forward to seeing parents and students of the future MCHS Class of 2019 on Thursday, February 5th starting at 6:00 p.m. in the MCHS auditorium.

Walk in Jimmy's Shoes has another successful year

Thank you to Jack Burford Chevrolet and Soft Shoe for teaming up with our community to provide shoes for our middle and high school students who are in need this winter. More than 130 pairs of shoes were donated along with money to purchase shoes. Walk in Jimmy's Shoes is a great program that certainly helps a lot of kids each year!

Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass grant recipients announced

Each year, Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass awards 10 $1,000 grants to Madison County Schools teachers who have innovative ideas in the areas of science, math, and/or technology. This year's grant recipients have been announced and their ideas range from understanding spatial reasoning and engineering rules to building bridges that will withstand earthquakes and even creating virtual lab experiences. Congratulations to these teachers!

Difficulty continues with district phone system

UPDATE:  The phones are back up and running!!! Thanks to MCS Ben Burnett and the technicians at Windstream for working so hard to find and fix the problem.

Math Intervention Teachers Honored with Trailblazer Award

Thirteen Kentucky teachers received the Northern Kentucky University Trailblazer Award for Mathematics Education during a presentation by President Mearns Dec. 4 at the Embassy Suites Lexington. Among them were 5 math interventionists from Madison County Schools.

City of Richmond postpones parade

Based on predictions from the National Weather Service, City and Emergency Management Officials have decided that postponing the Richmond Christmas Parade will be in the best interest of public safety. Due to scheduling conflicts with various community events, the only date available to reschedule this event is December 12th. Barring further inclement weather, we will hold the parade on this date. The line up for the parade will be from 4:30-6:00pm. The parade will leave Alumni Coliseum at 6:45pm and will arrive at Main Street at approximately 7:00pm. We realize that this is an inconvenience for many of our participants and we are doing everything that we can to help make this event a success. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Madison County Schools will not be in session Wednesday, Nov. 26; Thursday, Nov. 27; and Friday, Nov. 28; to honor the Thanksgiving holiday. School offices will be closed during that time. Buffalo Wild Wings Basketball Fundraiser

Coat Drive

BMC is having a school wide coat drive competition.  We will be accepting new or gently used coats, gloves, scarves and hats.  Please consider donating any items you may have at home.

2014 Veteran's Day Program

Our Veterans Day Program is coming up on Monday,  November 10 at 9:00 am.    We would like for any student at BMCMS that has a family member or knows a Veteran they would like to invite to please do so.  Forms for you to fill out can be picked up from your social studies teacher and will need to be returned back to your social studies teacher by Thursday, November 6.  Please pick one of those up if you are interested. 

Afternoon dismissal update

Afternoon dismissal will be at the regular time this afternoon. The district is aware of the traffic impact throughout the county. Please expect many delays in the afternoon bus routes. We appreciate your patience as we are doing our best to get students home as quickly as possible.

Interstate 75 Closure

Due to a chemical spill occurring this morning which has caused a closure of I-75, Madison County Emergency Management recommends residents in the area near the spill take the following precautionary actions:

Madison County Schools names new Director of District Wide Services

Madison County Schools named Charles “Chuck” Cash as director of district wide services this week. Mr. Cash will begin his role on December 1, 2014.

Mr. Cash began work in Madison County Schools in December 2003 as science and social studies teacher at Foley Middle School. While at Foley Middle, Mr. Cash also served students as girls’ softball coach and girls’ basketball coach. Mr. Cash served as assistant principal at Madison Southern High School from July 2006 to July 2007 before begin named associate principal at Madison Southern in July 2007. In December 2013, Mr. Cash was named principal at MSHS and is currently serving in that role.

EKU partnership with NBC Learn will benefit MCS students

A new partnership between Eastern Kentucky University and NBC Learn will provide students and faculty access to premium education videos, which will also be available to classrooms throughout the Madison County School District.

EKU is the first institution in the Commonwealth to gift the educational resource to a local school district. The University’s Model Laboratory School – a department of the College of Education that teaches students from pre-K through 12th grade while providing field experiences for EKU students – already has access to the NBC Learn collection.

2014 Unbridled Learning Data Released

Madison County Schools is pleased to announce that the district has increased its scores enough to be designated as a "Proficient - Progressing" district. Proficient means the district ranks in the 70th percentile or above among all 173 Kentucky districts. The district reached the 87th percentile this year among Kentucky districts.

October is Anti-Bullying Awareness Month

Thanksgiving & Christmas Assistance

If your family is in need of Thanksgiving or Christmas assistance the Youth Service Center(YSC) will be having holiday assistance signs up on October 7th from 9-12pm and October 8th from 3-5pm in the Youth Service Center.  These will be the only times the YSC will accept applications for holiday assistance.

Madison County Board of Education announced today the district has five (5) schools that are eligible for and will be implementing the Community Eligibility Program for the 2014-2015 school year.

The CEP eligible schools include:

  • Madison Kindergarten Academy
  • Bellevue Learning Center, including Madison Day Treatment and Preschool

PTO News

The Spartans PTO will play an important role by providing parent volunteers, funding school events and raising funds to support our children’s educational experience while they attend B. Michael Middle School. We would love for you to become a member of our PTO!! A $5 contribution (per family) will be used for supplies, operating expenses and items for events for this year (2014-2015). 7th Grade Chicago Trip Informational Meeting

There will be an informational meeting for parents about the 7th grade Chicago trip this Thursday, August 28th, at 5 PM in the Caudill library.

3rd Annual Tracks for Packs event helps support Madison Backpack Program

The 3rd annual Tracks for Packs 5K is coming up Saturday, Sept. 6. The event benefits the Madison Backpack Program, which is facilitated by God’s Outreach Food Pantry and Madison County Schools. You are welcome to register online or by printing a registration form at www.tracksforpacks.org. In the past two years, this event has raised more than $30,000 to help support the Madison Backpack Program. The program sends home more than 1,400 backpacks of food on the weekends with children of all ages across the district.

T-Shirt Side Walk Sale

On Saturday, August 9, from 10:00-11:30, all Spartan booster clubs, along with Spartan Renaissance will be selling school t-shirts in front of the school.

Each club will be collecting money for the shirts that they are selling.  Renaissance t-shirts are $10.00  Please bring $5.00 and $10.00 bills as you will need to pay per table.

All BMCMS booster clubs are invited to sell shirts as a fundraiser- tables will be provided, but you may bring your own table if you wish.

Girls Soccer Tryouts

Girls Soccer Tryouts will be May 19th from 5:30 -7:30 pm and May 20th from 3:30 - 5:30 pm at the Caudill soccer field.  Make up dates will be July 11th from 8 - 10 am and July 14th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.  You must have a current sports physical on file to try out.

8th Grade Recognition will be Wednesday, May 28th at 6 pm in Caudill's gymnasium. 

MCHS Minority SBDM Election

Madison Central High School will be holding a Special Election to elect a Minority Parent Representative to the Site Based Decision Making Council.  Any parent of a current 8th Grade BMCMS student may vote in this election.

Cheerleading Tryouts

Cheer tryouts for Caudill Middle School will be May 19, 20 and 21 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the school.  You must have a current sports physical on file to try out!

Calendars, graduations approved by the Board

The Board of Education voted tonight to finalize the district’s calendar for the 2013-2014 school year. 10 minutes per day will be added to the day beginning Wednesday, April 23. The last day of school for students will be Friday, May 30. Closing day for employees will be Thursday, June 5. Professional Development days are scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, and Monday, May 26.

MCS Technology Extravaganza!

The Madison County Technology Extravaganza Showcase will be held Thursday, April 17, at Madison Central High School. Students will showcase their projects from 5 to 6 p.m. and the awards will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in Madison Central's Auditorium. All students receiving this letter will be recognized on stage. The event this year will be streamed live and recorded so that you will be able to share your success with others. If you are unable to attend but would like to watch the ceremony, click HERE for a live feed.

Blue-White Day for Madison County Schools

Monday, April 7, is Blue-White Day in the district. Madison County Schools is showing its support for former Madison Central standout and current UK Wildcat Dominique Hawkins.

6th Grade Spartan Camp

All incoming 6th graders for the 2014 - 2015 school year are invited to attend the Spartan Camp on August 7th from 9 am until 12 pm.  Come learn about the school, locks, schedules and dress code.  Check back at a later date for the registration form.  In the meantime, if you have questions, please call our Youth Service Office at 859-387-5017.

Volunteer Confidentiality Training schedule available

Back to school time also means it is time for parents, grandparents, and other community members to attend volunteer confidentiality training. Any person who is interested in volunteering in a school, chaperoning a class field trip, or helping in any other way will need to complete the mandatory volunteer confidentiality training. If the training is not completed, that person will be unable to volunteer in any way.

More Girls Soccer Dates Announced

All girls attending Caudill in the fall are encouraged to come and tryout for the girls soccer team.  There are still several openings that need to be filled.  Any questions, please call Gary Hughes at 859-358-0584.

World Archery Championships come to Richmond

Caudill Middle School and Madison Central High School have won the World Archery Championships in the middle and high school divisions. The win is a third consecutive title for Caudill Middle School and a first for MCHS. Congratulations to both teams!

New Chief Operations Officer named

Madison County Schools named Randy Neeley as chief operations officer. Neeley will begin his role on July 1, 2014. Neeley has served Madison County Schools as director of pupil personnel since 2010. Prior to serving as DPP, he served Madison County Schools as principal of White Hall Elementary, assistant principal of Madison Middle, and health teacher at Madison Middle. Neeley’s career in education began in 1994 and he has served his entire career in Madison County Schools.

Mike's Kids Education Foundation shares new look

Mike’s Kids Education Foundation has planted an important seed during the last six years. Now it’s time to let that seed grow — to raise awareness and rally more community support for our students. The Foundation is excited to share with the next chapter.

Dr. Hub Accepts Superintendent Post for Logan County Schools

The Logan County Board of Education announced the selection of Dr. Kevin F. Hub as their next superintendent of schools. Dr. Hub is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Environmental Geography, Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond with a Masters of Arts in Education degree in Geography Education, and Spalding University in Louisville with a Doctorate in Education in Leadership Education. He is currently serving as Assistant Superintendent and Chief Operating Officer for Madison County Schools and is in his 20th year in education.
