Calendars, graduations approved by the Board

The Board of Education voted tonight to finalize the district’s calendar for the 2013-2014 school year. 10 minutes per day will be added to the day beginning Wednesday, April 23. The last day of school for students will be Friday, May 30. Closing day for employees will be Thursday, June 5. Professional Development days are scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, and Monday, May 26.

Gear-Up After-School Tutoring for Seniors

Big Apple Trip

MSHS students collect coats for those in need

Madison Southern High School's chapter of Tri-M (Modern Music Masters) conducted a coat drive and collected coats for the Richmond Post of the Salvation Army this month. The group collected and delivered 120 coats and blankets to the Salvation Army to be distributed to those in need in our community.

Richmond-area kindergarten academy principal named

Madison County Schools Superintendent Elmer Thomas announced Thursday evening that Shelly Boulden will serve as principal of the Richmond-area kindergarten academy beginning next school year. Boulden is currently principal at Mayfield Elementary.

School year calendar update

As of Wednesday, March 5, 2014, students have missed fifteen (15) days of school for inclement weather – Dec. 10; Jan. 6, 7, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24; Feb. 3, 6, 10, 26; and March 3, 4, and 5. When the calendar was developed for this school year, administrators “built in” time for four (4) school days. That time has been used and we are now making adjustments to the calendar. Students attended school on Presidents Day (Feb. 17), which was in the original calendar as a holiday. Students will attend school on Friday, March 21, which was in the original calendar as a professional development day. The original last day of classes was scheduled for Friday, May 23. The last day of classes for students will now be Friday, June 6. The calendar will continue to be updated as we move through winter. An updated calendar can be found by clicking here.
