Monday, June 1, is half day for students

Monday, June 1, 2015, is the final day of classes for students in Madison County Schools. It will be a "half day." Dismissal for the last day of school will be 3 hours prior to regular dismissal time.

6th Grade Survivor Camp

Foley Middle School will be providing a great opportunity for your student to become acquainted and comfortable with entering middle school.  We will be hosting our 12th annual 6th Grade Survivor Camp for all incoming 6th graders to Foley Middle School. The Survivor Camp will be held on Monday August 3 at Foley Middle School from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Technology Open House and Band Spring Concert

We would like to invite you to attend a technology open house at Foley Middle School on Thursday, May 7, 2015.  Come out from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. and enjoy a snack.  From 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., you may walk around the school and view art work, photography, and other projects that students have created using technology.  Foley was the 2015 Madison County Technology School of the Year.  Come out and see our students'  projects!

At 7:00 p.m., the band will host the Spring Concert in the auditorium at Madison Southern High School.  Our award winning band is amazing...come out and be treated to an awesome concert!

Apply Now for Red Foley Scholarship

We are now taking applications for the Red Foley academic scholarship award worth $500. That means if you win, we will write you a check for $500 when you enroll in college or a vocational school.   Applications are available in the library or you can see Mrs. Hardy (formerly Ms. Smith).  Applications are due back no later than May 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm.

KPREP Testing

KPREP Testing will be May 11th - May 15th.  Please try to be in attendance at school every day.  Eat a good breakfast every morning!  For parents that might be interested,  click the link below for information about Testing Care Packages that are available for purchase for your child.

There will be a PTO meeting on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 5:00 p.m.   All parents are invited to attend!

Tutoring Opportunity

Not happy with your student’s progress report?  Take advantage of our Saturday morning tutoring opportunity.  Tomorrow there will be 2 certified teachers available from 9-12 in the FMS library to assist your student in “catching up” on their work.  It is the student’s responsibility to bring their missing assignments with them.  Students will not stay the entire time.  When they finish their work, they will call you for pick up.  Students do NOT have to be in dress code and can come in or leave at any time.  This is a free service for the students of Foley where we challenge everyone to pursue success.

2015 Madison County Technology School of the Year

Congratulations Warriors!  We are so proud of students and teachers!

Foley Middle School is the 2015 Madison County Technology School of the Year!  Foley was well represented at the Annual Madison County Technology Extravaganza.  This event showcases products created by students in Madison County.   Students from FoleyMiddle submitted projects such as, Music Videos, Documentary Film Videos, Powerpoints, Facebook projects, Photography, 3D Art, Typing Art, Commercials, etc.  The travelling Madison County Technology School of the Year tropy will be on display at school.

Parent SBDM Election

The Parent Election for Foley Middle School 2015-2016 Site Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) will be on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 8:00 am-4:00 pm in the office! Nominees include:

Cheerleading Tryouts

Cheerleading tryouts will be May 18th, May 20th, May 21st, and May 22th from 3:30 to 5:00 pm at Shannon Johnson Elementary School gym with Ms. Moberly.  Judging will occur throughout the week of tryouts.

Spring Pictures

Spring Pictures will be taken on Friday, April 24, 2015.  Please do not wear green.

Parent SBDM Elections for 2015 - 2016

It is time for Foley Middle School’s SBDM parent elections.  Any parent, stepparent, or legal guardian of a student who will be enrolled in Foley Middle School during the 2015-2016 school year is eligible to run for this office.

 

If you want to run for the Council, contact the school office at 625-6140. You may nominate yourself or another parent, if you have that parent’s consent.  Nominations will be accepted through Friday, April 24th at 12:00 pm.

 

This year's election will be held on Tuesday April 28th, during the school day.  Voting will be open until 3:00 that afternoon.

 

Saturday Morning Tutoring Available

FMS will NOT be offering summer school this year, but we are offering Saturday morning tutoring sessions.  Saturday from 9-12 there will be 2 tutors available to help your student “catch up” on any missing assignments.  It is the student’s responsibility to bring work with them on that day.  Any student who shows up without the assignments in hand will be sent back home.  As the student finishes the work, he will be able to call his parents to come pick him up. 

Students do not have to be in dress code and do not have to stay the entire time.  We encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity available for student success.  Call the school for more information.

MCS archers raise $4,500 for charity

Madison Southern High School hosted archers from throughout the county and together they raised $4,500 in the 5th annual Judy Rogers Shoot for the Cure Archery Tournament. More than 350 archers from Kirksville Elementary, Waco Elementary, Glenn Marshall Elementary, White Hall Elementary, Shannon Johnson Elementary, Clark-Moores Middle, Caudill Middle, Farristown Middle, Madison Central High, and Madison Southern High were able to raise the funds that will be donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Hospice Care Plus. In the 5 years of the tournament, students have raised more than $30,000 for these two charities.

Board approves 2015-2016 school year calendar

The Madison County Board of Education approved the district's 2015-2016 school year calendar at its regular meeting April 16. The calendar can be viewed or printed by clicking HERE.

5th and 6th Grade Dance

The 5th and 6th Grade Dance will be on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Admission cost will be $5.00, and concessions will be available for purchase.  This dance is an opportunity for upcoming Warriors to meet some of our current 6th graders.  Come on out and get your groove on!

8th Grade Baby Pictures for Yearbook

It’s that time again… If you are interested in putting your 8th Grader’s baby picture in the Yearbook, please choose one picture as well as a short note (if you would like)!  The cost is $20, and the deadline is March 27th.  Please turn your pictures/notes into Ms. Fergie!

Congratulations to Our Distinguished Band!

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade band on receiving straight distinguished ratings at District Concert Band Festival today.  Distinguished is the highest rating possible that the students can receive!  This is the highest rating Foley Middle School Band has ever gotten in school history!  Great Job!!

Congratulations to the 6th grade band students for receiving straight distinguished ratings at the district concert band festival today! Receiving the highest rating possible, these 6th graders also made school history by being the first 6th grade band at Foley middle school to ever receive such high honors. Great job!
 

4-H Babysitter Afterschool Workshop

There will be a two day 4-H Babysitter Workshop at Foley Middle School on Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14, 2015.   The workshop will be held from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. each day.  Please see Mr. Wray to register by Wednesday, April 8, 2015.

Parent Teacher Conferences

The third nine weeks will end on March 20, 2015, and Report Cards will be sent home on March 25, 2015.  Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Please call the office at (859) 625-6140 to schedule an appointment.

Board approves calendar for 2014-2015 end of school

The Madison County Board of Education voted to approve the final calendar for the 2014-2015 school year. The last day of school for students will be Monday, June 1, 2015. Graduation dates were also set by the Board. Madison Central High School graduates will have their ceremony on Friday, May 29. Madison Southern High School graduates will have their ceremony on Saturday, May 30. Both ceremonies will be held at Eastern Kentucky University's Alumni Coliseum. The times for those ceremonies will be announced soon.

Pi Day Activities at Foley!

Students celebrated Pi Day by writing Pi-ku poetry, reading books on the history and uses of pi, investigating the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and visiting the National Institute of Standards and Technology on a virtual field trip. Celebrations continued as students ate pie!

Warriors' Art on Display

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the following students for having artwork submitted to the Berea Arts Council Community Art Show & Young at Art Exhibit.  The Berea Arts Council is a non-profit organization that promotes the arts within the community.  Artwork will be on display from March 13th through April 11th.  This is a great event in which the students will have artwork on display with local artists.  We encourage you to please attend the reception this Saturday March 14th from 2:00-4:00 at the Berea Arts Council, 139 North Broadway (in Old Town).

For 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Trip

The last meeting for this year's Washington D.C. trip will be on March 24, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.  Any adult going needs to bring a copy of your background check and documentation of confidentiality training.  If you can not attend this meeting, please call (859) 625-6140.  All students going on the trip need to attend this meeting.

Attention 7th Grade Parents and Students

It is time to begin planning for the Washington D.C. trip for 2016.  There will be a meeting concerning plans for the trip in the Library Media Center on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 6:00 p.m.  If you have any questions, please call our office at (859) 625-6140.

Mrs. Cress will be having an informational meeting in room 105 at Madison Southern at 3:30 p.m. on March 10, 2015 for any 8th grade girl interested in playing soccer next year at Madison Southern High School.

For 8th Graders Interested in MSHS Football

The Madison Southern Football Boosters will be having a very important booster meeting on Tuesday, March 10th at 6:30pm in the Madison Southern Cafeteria for parents of upcoming Madison Southern Football players.   We will be going over by-laws, budget and volunteer lists for the upcoming football events.  We will also be selling MSHS football gear at reduced prices ($5-$15--in $5 increments, try to bring correct change) so that you can be in your blue and orange as much as possible!

Youth Service Center Offers A Ladies Self-Defense Class

Calling all ladies! Come out and join us for a fun evening of learning basic self-defense skills at Farristown Middle School. Science Fair

Foley Middle School will be having its first annual Science Fair on Thursday, February 12th at 6pm in the school's gymnasium.  There are both individual and group entries which will be judged by members of our community including a former Warrior and a science teacher at Madison Southern.  The community is invited to attend and see the hard work the entered students have put in. 

Participating students: make sure you are there by 5:15 to set up your displays.  Also, please have your papers to Miss Jeck on Thursday morning.

Warriors Make All-District Band

Congratulations to Abby Eipert and Miranda Ingleston for making All-District band. These students auditioned and were selected, along with other outstanding musicians from the district, to participate in the upcoming All-District Band concert held on March 6, 2015  at Danville High School.
