NEW YORK

 CHOOSE YOUR DESTINATION!

CHICAGO

INTRODUCTION

The travel club at your school is looking at possible destinations for their trip next year. Your task is to research the cities of New York or Chicago as a possible destination for the travel club. You must plan an itinerary and calculate the total cost for the trip of your choice. The travel club can take 20 students and 5 chaperones.

Teacher's Notes are available in this webquest.

TASK

Your task is to obtain information about how much a trip would cost to New York City or Chicago for a group of 20 students and 5 adults. You will find costs for travel, lodging, food, and entertainment. Once you have chosen an itinerary, you will represent all costs using a table. You will then use this information to write a proposal to the travel club sponsors to convince them to go to the city you have chosen and use your itinerary. Try to plan as many activities as possible while keeping costs to a minimum.

PROCEDURES

1. You will work in groups of two or three on this project. These groups should have already been decided in your class.

2. Your first step is to choose which city you want to visit. In order to decide, you may want to preview some of the websites listed under entertainment for each city.

3. Next you will plan the itinerary for your trip. This means you will plan what activity will be taking place at all times while you are away. This includes planning for transportation to and from the city of your choice and transportation while you are there. You must also plan for lodging during your stay and all meals and entertainment. You may plan to leave on your trip Thursday, May 4th and return by Sunday evening on May 8th. You will record your data on the itinerary provided by your teacher. If your teacher has not provided a copy, click here to see the form.

4. After you have completed your itinerary, you need to fill out an expense report. This report will show the total cost of the trip as well as the amounts you plan to spend on transportation, lodging, food, and entertainment. Your teacher may supply you with a copy of the expense report. If not, click here to view and print the report.

5. After you have organized all your data, you each will write a letter to persuade the travel club to choose your destination and itinerary.
