Your dad has a new job in Mexico! Not New Mexico the state, but Mexico the country!! You, your mom, your dad, and your little brother will be moving at the end of the month.
Your mom and dad seem excited about the move, but your younger brother is a little upset.
He has no idea where Mexico is or what it is like. He also wonders what Mexicans eat and what they do for fun.
As his big brother, is there something you can do to help him learn about Mexico?

Since your little brother loves books, you have decided the best way to help him understand Mexico and Mexican Traditions is to make a childrens book.
You have decided that the book should answer at least 5 of his questions.
- Where is Mexico?
- What is the weather like in Mexico?
- What do Mexican's eat?
- Where are some interesting places to go in Mexico?
- Do they read fairy tales and folk stories?
- What do Mexican's do at Birthday Parties, Christmas, etc? Do they have special customs?
- What is the history of Mexico -- When was it founded and who discovered it?
The book will contain at least 6 pages - a cover page and five information pages. You will also put in hand drawn pictures to help your brother understand the words he cannot quite read yet.
You need to start the book today!! You only have 4 weeks to reassure your brother that moving to Mexico is nothing to worry about.

Before you begin your book about Mexico, you must decide the title of the book, design the cover of the book, and plan the book's content. The planning sheet provided will help you create a layout for the cover sheet, plan what questions will be answered on what page, what type of drawings you will need, and the possible content of the pages.
After the book is planned, you will need to gather information about Mexico. The note-taking sheet and on-line resources provided will help you in this task.
Once you have enough information, obtain 7 (8 1/2 X 11) sheets of paper from your teacher.
- Sheet 1 will be your cover page.
You can make it out of construction paper and/or copy paper.- Sheets 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, will contain the book's contents.
These pages will need to be constructed on white copy paper.- Sheet 7 will be the back cover.
This sheet will be blank and it should be the same type of paper as the front cover sheet.Using your planning sheet and note-taking sheet, construct each page of your book. You can use pencil, pen, markers, glue, and/or anything necessary to make your book attractive and informative.
When all the pages are complete, stack the pages one on top of the other beginning with the cover page. Staple the pages together along the left hand side creating a binding effect. You can use 2 or 3 staples. The finished product along with your planning sheet and note sheet should be given to your teacher for evaluation.
